GateWay Community College is known in the community for its healthcare education and training excellence and is the only college in the Maricopa Community College to offer the Radiologic Technology program. Radiologic Technology, otherwise known as X-ray Technology, involves using sophisticated imaging equipment to photograph parts of the human body.

The Radiologic Technology program will provide access to educational activities that prepare graduates for employment as competent, entry-level radiologic technologists in the healthcare workforce.

Special Requirement
All students interested in any of our Healthcare programs will be required to attend an Information/Advising session, which will provide in-depth information and enrollment guidance.

Please note that the Radiologic Technology Program at GateWay Community College does not accept transfer credit(s) for the required RAD courses.

Bachelor of Science in Health Science: Diagnostic Medical Imaging and Therapy
Northern Arizona University (NAU) offers a unique opportunity for students who are currently pursuing an Associate’s degree in nuclear medicine, radiography, ultrasound, or radiation therapy at a regionally-accredited community college or university, to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences through Northern Arizona University. This is an “upside down” 3+1 degree completion program. This means that all Allied Health clinical concepts and training are attained at the Associate degree level (students are able to transfer in up to 90 credits from a regionally-accredited program outside of NAU. More general health concepts are taught online through NAU to enhance Allied Health academic preparation at the Bachelor degree level. NAU does NOT offer any of these clinical disciplines but instead partners with students who have completed or are in the process of completing an allied health-related Associate degree from a regionally-accredited program. Radiologic Technology Programmatic Accreditation
Accreditation is a review process used in higher education to ensure that institutions and programs of higher education meet acceptable levels of quality.
The radiography program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.

GateWay Community College Accreditation
GateWay Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
Why should you choose an accredited school?
Although many schools offer seemingly similar degree and certification options, not all schools are accredited. In many instances, accreditation of the degree or program you complete may be required in order to become certified to work in the field.
National Certification
Students completing the Radiologic Technology program at GateWay Community College will be eligible for the American Registry in Radiologic Technology(ARRT) Certification Exam in Radiography. Click here for more information on earning ARRT credentials.
State Licensure
Once graduates have passed the ARRT Certification Exam in Radiography, they will be eligible to apply for a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) license through the Arizona Department of Health Services, Bureau of Licensing for Professions and Occupations. Both national certification and state licensure are necessary for employment in Arizona.
