Step 1 – Apply for Admission
New students – if you are a new student and interested in attending GateWay Community College, you must submit an Admission Application.
Step 2 – Completing the FAFSA
Create your FSA ID
The FSA ID is used to apply for federal student aid online and access your FSA record online. It also serves as your electronic signature. If you are a dependent student, your parent(s) also need an FSA ID.
Complete the FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the application used to determine a student’s eligibility for federal student aid programs. The FAFSA must be completed each year to be considered for financial aid.
Information Needed to Complete the FAFSA
- Your Social Security Number
- FSA ID
- GateWay Community College (credit hour) - Federal Student Code: 008303
- GateWay Skill Center (clock program) - Federal Student Code: E00701
- Driver's license number (if you have one)
- Alien Registration number (if you're not a U.S. citizen)
- Federal tax return and W-2 information
- If You Are Married, you will also need to include the following:
- Spouse's federal tax return and W-2 information
- Spouse's records of untaxed income
- If You're a Dependent Student, provide your parents' information including:
- Social Security numbers
- Alien Registration Numbers (if applicable)
- Federal Income Tax Returns and W-2s
- Records of untaxed income
- Note: Your parents will also need to obtain an FSA ID and sign the FAFSA form
- If You Are Married, you will also need to include the following:

FAFSA Filing Options
Use ONE of these options for filing the FAFSA.
- Complete the online FAFSA, print and return by mail OR
- Request a print-out of the FAFSA to be mailed to you by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 334-523-2691. Please note that completing a FAFSA PDF could add four to six weeks to the overall processing time.
For the deaf or hard of hearing the TTY is 1-800-730-8913. Please complete the form and mail it for processing.
After You Submit the FAFSA
You may be asked to provide additional documentation to complete your application. The Financial Aid Office notifies you by using the Tasks tile if more documentation is required. You can access your Task by logging into your Student Center.
Private Loans
GateWay Community College does certify private loans, however, we cannot recommend or suggest any private lenders.
