Picture this, it’s 1995 in South Phoenix, and a young Spawk is jamming out to music while painstakingly practicing art through letterforms. Little did he know then that this hobby would one day become part of his life’s legacy—one that is driven by an enduring passion for art and creation.
Fast forward 20 years, and Spawk is bringing his art to GateWay Community College, where he attended GateWay Early College High School from 1999-2000. Here Spawk is holding his Opening Reception for his new exhibit, Painted Legacy: The Evolution of My Style at GateWay’s Washington Campus on Friday, February 28, 2025.
According to Spawk, his style is a mixture of 1920s advertising and graffiti. His designs are presented in many forms, including murals, window designs, lettering, vehicle painting, and even a clothing line he launched in 2019. You may have seen his work across the Phoenix area at a skatepark, bar, barbershop, or the Phoenix Suns, but you might not have known it was his because Spawk doesn’t even sign his work—that’s not his style.
Spawk really enjoys pinstriping cars, introduced to him in 2012 by his mentor, Eddie "ET" Torres, and some of that work will be shown at the exhibit. According to Spawk, “Some of the coolest cars from all over the Valley will be on display outside for the car show.” In addition, there will be live painting, food from Estero Beach Tacos, and Funk and Oldies played by DJ Lee and Friends. Attendees can even try pinstriping alongside the pros.
The public is invited to attend this free event and enjoy Spawk’s organic Kustom culture aesthetic during this celebration of his artistic journey. The show begins at 6:00 p.m. and goes until 9:00 p.m. February 28. Although tickets are not required, RSVP is requested through Eventbrite. Come be part of the legacy!
