Phoenix, Ariz., December 5, 2024 – Today, GateWay Community College is proud to join the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation (MCCF) and Maricopa Community Colleges in launching EmpowerED for Student Success, a three-year, $20 million fundraising campaign aimed at increasing financial support and removing barriers to help students attain a college degree and strengthen the state’s workforce. This bold initiative is a critical step toward ensuring that every student in Maricopa County has access to higher education and the opportunity to thrive in and beyond college.
“There are so many ways to invest in our students’ future, but the EmpowerED Campaign is an initiative that brings us all together to lighten the burdens of our community,” said Dr. Amy Diaz, GateWay President. “When students have financial support, they have so much more than that—they have stability, confidence, and the resources to prepare them for success in the classroom as well as the workforce.”
GateWay will work alongside MCCF and its sister colleges to raise funds in support of GateWay initiatives including technology advancements, arts/culture, and the Healthcare United at GateWay (HUG) Clinic, a student-run, pro-bono community health clinic. In addition, the campaign will focus on four key areas: scholarships and stipends, basic needs resources, workforce development, and innovative programming to sustain existing College Promise programs.
“When we all come together in support of one common goal, our power and strength is that much greater,” said Dr. Steven R. Gonzales, Maricopa Community Colleges Chancellor. “For many of our students, funding goes beyond just financial support, it’s a lifeline. This campaign brings each of our colleges and the Foundation together, supporting one strategy that we will achieve as a community.”
There are a variety of funds and activities that support GateWay students in many different ways. From advances in healthcare, to providing for students’ emergency needs, this campaign will help students be successful by removing barriers to their learning. When students don’t have to worry about things like food or clothing, they can dive into their programs and look to their future. It also helps the college move into the future, supporting innovations in green technology and nursing/healthcare, continuing GateWay’s legacy of responsiveness to the needs of the local workforce and community.
