Chris Boers

When Chris Boers started at GateWay, he was living in a small studio apartment and the school was an hour drive in one direction. He was working a job that had no opportunity for advancement or pay increases and was also trying to support his family.

With his first child going to school, he had to work as many hours as possible to make ends meet. The poor job market also made it difficult to find work. Despite these challenges, Chris knew he wanted more out of his career.

After learning about the Apprentice Meat Cutter program at GateWay Community College, he knew he had found his path and completed the program in 2018.

Chris said, "GateWay changed my life by giving me the opportunity to learn a trade and the knowledge to succeed in my field. I have worked hard and gained experience.” After completing the program, his success didn’t stop there.

“I have moved up and been promoted to the point that I am at the top end of the pay range. I now have a house on an acre and a half and am expecting my third child." He added.

In the future, Chris wants to start a small farm and meat shop to help support his family. He also is interested in becoming an instructor at GateWay so that he can give others the same opportunity he received.
