GateWay Launches Short-term Workshops

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

If you have not met your new year’s goal of trying or learning something new in 2018, GateWay Community College is announcing a new, affordable Community Education program where anyone over 16 years of age is able to participate, starting in September 2018.

Community Education at GateWay includes short-term, non-credit workshops that cover a variety of topics from arts and crafts, beauty and wellness, fitness and dance, to money and personal enrichment. More than 30 options are being offered between September through November, with more options to come in Spring 2019.

According to Jeanne Ratliff, director of Partnerships at GateWay, these workshops will allow community members to engage in a fun activity or become familiar with a topic they may further pursue as a college student.

“It allows community members to engage with the college as lifelong learners,” she said. “It also gives GateWay the chance to deepen its relationship with the surrounding community.”

Workshop prices range from $19 to $80, depending on the topic and duration. They will be offered weekday evening and Saturdays at GateWay’s three campuses in Phoenix. Multiple sessions are available to select from, between September through November.

Continuous improvement and providing what participants want is a goal to be able to build on this initial offering, so participants will be asked for feedback to help guide plans for future semesters in Community Education.

“We hope to offer foreign language, musical instrument lessons and expand art options in the future,” said Ratiliff. “My desire is to provide enjoyable experiences to participants so that they want to to never stop learning.”
