GateWay Baseball Coach and interim Athletic Director, Rob Shabansky has been named as pitcher coach for the 15U National Team. USA Baseball made the announcement of its 15U National Team Staff in late April.
Shabansky has coached the GateWay baseball team for 10 seasons and has led the team to various wins, including a national championship playoff. He led the 16U National Team in 2010 and 2011, and helped the team win gold medals on both years.
Shabansky is known in the baseball community for his keen ability to pick and develop talented players. He has helped several GateWay Geckos earn scholarships at universities and colleges throughout the country as well as seeing some of his players drafted for Major League Baseball.
Shabansky, a Las Vegas native, was a pitcher for the University of Arizona (UA) Wildcats' and played Minor League baseball into his adult years. He received his bachelor’s degree in communications from UA.
He was appointed to Interim Athletic Director at GateWay Community College in spring of 2015.
