Known statewide for its excellence in the healthcare and nursing fields, GateWay Community College has also been in the international spotlight due to the accomplishments of its faculty and staff.
John Lampignano, director for the Center for Teaching and Learning, will be traveling to La Plata, Argentina this November as a guest lecturer at the “30th Argentine Congress of Radiology Technician and Graduates,” (XXX Congreso Argentino de Licenciados y Tecnicos Radiologos).
Lampignano who has gained international notoriety as the co-author of the Textbook of Radiographic Positioning and Related Anatomy, a procedure book that is used in a number of schools throughout the United States.
“My colleague Nancy Jonson and I have worked for a number of years to developed a technique called relational sectional anatomy,” said Lampignano. “This technique shows not only the anatomy but it helps individuals learn it in a very effective way.”
Last year, he presented at a radiology congress in Peru, and this year he will be presenting in Argentina to an audience of mostly radiology educators, technologists and students on sectional anatomy.
The purpose of his presentation is to show attendees not just the ins and outs of radiology imagining but also to share the teaching technique behind it.
Through these presentations by various GateWay faculty and campus leaders, new linkages have been formed with educators and institutions in Puerto Rico, Peru, Argentina as well as Canada and China further increasing the visibility of GateWay and the Maricopa Community Colleges across the globe.
“I’m honored to have been invited to this event,” said Lampignano. “I love discussing these topics with students, whether here in the U.S. or in other countries, and I am sure this will be a lifelong memory.”
