Joseph G. Vokoun, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Joe Vokoun was a long-standing safety professional at Navistar International, who worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of thousands of employees over his career. Starting off as a part-time guard at the manufacturing facility in Melrose Park, IL, Joe attained a bachelor’s degree in business administration and progressed in his career to Loss Prevention and Safety Manager. Joe’s exceptional safety efforts garnered Navistar’s Best Overall Manufacturing Safety award for fourteen consecutive years.
After devoting over forty years of service to Navistar, Joe transitioned to semi-retirement by starting his own consulting business, conducting safety audits and offering his expertise to various corporations. Joe enjoyed his well-deserved retirement, participating in car shows with his 1963 Pontiac Catalina, tending to his two-acre property, golfing with friends, traveling, and reading. Joe was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and wonderful friend.
Joe was a Vietnam War Veteran and served in leadership positions at his local VFW post. He also volunteered at his church, serving as an usher for over 20 years.
The Vokoun Family wishes to honor Joe by offering a scholarship to students in the Environmental Science, Water & Occupational Safety programs and courses.
