Honoring the Legacy of Jessie Palacio

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, GateWay Community College will gather for a meaningful event—The Day of J.E.S.S.I.E (Journey, Empowerment, Service, and Self-Care for Everyone). More than just a gathering, this day is a tribute to the life, love, and lasting impact of Maria “Jessie” Palacio, a beloved member of the GateWay family.

A Day of Reflection, Service, and Community

The day will include opportunities to give back, connect, and practice self-care—principles Jessie held close to her heart.

  • Community Planting (8 a.m.-1 p.m.) – The event begins with a planting session in the Student Life Garden, in front of the CH Building and Amphitheater. Participants will help cultivate a space that reflects Jessie’s enduring impact. Those interested in donating plants or materials can sign up here
  • Self-Care Walk (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) – A guided walk starting in Student Life will provide a chance to step away from daily routines and reflect. Along the way, attendees can visit wellness stations focused on well-being and relaxation.
  • Wellness Stations (9 a.m.-1p.m.) – Spaces dedicated to renewal and self-care:
    • Essential Oils and Beauty & Wellness – Located in the 5C’s of Well-Being Center, offering simple ways to incorporate self-care into daily life.

    • Meditation Space – A quiet retreat in MA1280 for mindfulness and reflection
  • Hot Dog Lunch (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.) – A campus gathering on the patio next to the cafeteria to share a meal and celebrate Jessie’s profound influence.
