Welding

You’ll learn the ropes of Oxy-Fuel welding (OFW) and cutting (OFC), as well as Shielded Metal Arc welding (SMAW) processes under the guidance of our experienced instructors. You’ll gain the skills required to work with modern industrial welding equipment using advanced welding practices. Covered techniques include Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).

Students at any Maricopa Community College may need to complete courses at more than one of our colleges.

GateWay offers a variety of certificates that specialize in various welding skills. You can begin your educational journey with any of the certificate programs above. 

Welding is considered a clock program, which is a non-credit training program that provides skills for quick entry into the workforce. It has specific year-round start dates and meets four days a week, Monday-Thursday. 

The GateWay Welding program aligns with industry credentials outlined by the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 and/or D17.1 standards, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler Pressure Vessel Code IX, and/or American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104 standards.

Successful completion of the program makes you eligible to apply for graduation to receive your certificate of competency.

Certificate of Competency in Welding: Fundamentals: $5,301  |  720 hours/8-9 months

Certificate of Competency in Welding: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) Ferrous and Non-Ferrous:  $5,107  |  720 hours/8-9 months

Certificate of Competency in Welding: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Pipe:  $5,205  |  720 hours/8-9 months

*Day program months based on 24 hours a week/4 weeks a month. Actual completion times may vary. Costs include tuition, lab and estimated book fees. Amount based on current estimates and will vary. A separate $15 Registration Fee will be charged per academic year.
