Paint and Drywall Journeyworker
Information
If you have earned a Journeyworker card from a registered Paint and Drywall Apprenticeship, you may be eligible to receive college credit for the learning and expertise you already have toward an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Construction Trades: Paint and Drywall degree.

If eligible, you will receive 27.5 credits for Drywall specialization or 30 credits for Paint specialization. You must complete a minimum of 15 credits toward the requirements for the AAS degree at GateWay Community College.

There is a $500 administrative fee for the processing of the PLA application, which is not financial aid eligible.

Get Started
In order to receive Credit for Prior Learning, you will need to:
- Submit a valid Paint and Drywall Journeyworker Card to the GateWay Apprenticeships Office at gwc.apprenticeships@gatewaycc.edu with the subject line “Paint and Drywall Journeyworker Card for Verification.” They will contact the AZ State Office of Apprenticeships and verify that your Journeyworker Card meets the requirements.
- Upon verification, meet with an Advisor to:
- Become an active GateWay Community College student with an eligible Construction Trades: Paint and Drywalling AAS degree listed as your declared major. GateWay holds One-Stop Sessions for advising, placement testing, enrollment, applying for financial aid, etc. When we have verified your Paint and Drywall Journeyworker Card we will send you the link.
- There is a $500 administrative fee for the processing of the PLA application, which is not financial aid eligible.
