Carpentry Journeyworker
Information
If you have earned a Journeyworker card from a registered Carpentry Apprenticeship, you may be eligible to receive college credit for the learning and expertise you already have toward an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Construction Trades: Carpentry degree.

If eligible, you will receive 48 credits for prior learning. You must complete a minimum of 15 credits toward the requirements for an AAS degree at GateWay Community College.

There is a $500 administrative fee for the processing of the PLA application, which is not financial aid eligible.

Get Started
In order to receive Credit for Prior Learning, you will need to:
- Submit a valid Carpentry Journeyworker Card to the GateWay Apprenticeships Office at gwc.apprenticeships@gatewaycc.edu with the subject line “Carpentry Journeyworker Card for Verification.” They will contact the AZ State Office of Apprenticeships and verify that your Journeyworker Card meets the requirements.
- Upon verification, meet with an Advisor to:
- Become an active GateWay Community College student with an eligible Construction Trades: Carpentry AAS degree listed as your declared major. GateWay holds One-Stop Sessions for advising, placement testing, enrollment, applying for financial aid, etc. When we have verified your Carpentry Journeyworker Card we will send you the link.
- There is a $500 administrative fee for the processing of the PLA application, which is not financial aid eligible.
